Yesterday Flickrista turned one year old. I launched this site September 27 last year and time has really flown by. I am amazed by all the appreciation and constant support for Flickrista from all of you and it means a lot to me. I would also like to thank all the talented photographers and models who’s work is featured on Flickrista, your photos are what inspires me to keep improving and polishing the site to do your work justice – Thank you!

Flickrista version 3

Today I have launched a lot of new features and small changes on Flickrista.
Let’s go through what’s new:

This week’s popular photos in the header

The first thing you will notice are the three photos to the right of the logo. These photos are the ones with the highest star ratings within the last 7 days. As you vote for photos, the featured photos in the header will change.

Camera Information!
This feature is something I’m very proud of.
On single photo pages you can now see what camera was used to take the photo and which settings were used. The information is visible to the right of supported photos. This is great if you’re learning about photography as you get a glimpse into the technique of your favorite photographers.

The information contains the camera name, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focal length. If the photo was taken with a popular camera you will also see a photo of the camera.

Since some photographers have chosen to not share this information, and since some photos simply don’t contain the information needed, you won’t see the “Camera Information” section on every photo on Flickrista, but you will see it on a lot of them!

Social Networking

At the top of the sidebar we now have icons that make it very easy to share photos on your favorite social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Digg or StumbleUpon.

Photo navigation in the sidebar
On single photo pages we have moved navigation to the previous and next photo to the sidebar. This should make it easier to browse photos. As usual you can also navigate using our keyboard shortcuts.

Other small changes…
There are a bunch of other small changes throughout the site.

Mac users will notice that we now use Myriad Pro as the font of choice for headlines. Links to the next and previous page are easier to see. Information about Keyboard Shortcuts has been moved and simplified. Voting has been improved and should now show updated information faster.

On the surface it might not look like a lot has changed, but a lot of code has been written and a lot happens behind the scenes to make these new features work. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Try the new features and let me know what you think!
